Catalyzed Into Action

The Backstory

In November, 2020 the leadership of the Cape Cod Sea Camps announced that it would be closing its doors, ceasing to exist as a summer camp for children as it had for nearly a century. The news sent a shock through the alumni, parent, camper, and local communities and mobilized a movement of people from around the world to preserve the site so that it may continue to serve children and conserve its precious coastal resources.

The primary focus of the Brewster Flats Foundation is to acquire and preserve the former Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster in perpetuity and to offer camp-based and year-round educational and community programming.

The site is currently being placed on the private market, and it must be preserved in order to realize the great potential that exists for the future.

Why It Matters

Developers might have a lot to gain from this site, but we all have a lot to lose. That’s why we need all hands on deck.

Here’s what’s at stake if we don’t ACT TODAY:

  • Risk of development that could change the character and fabric of Brewster and Route 6A

  • Loss of potential new public open spaces, recreational areas, event spaces, and beach access

  • Loss of camping, educational, research, and recreational facilities and partnerships that can serve a wide range of children and families

Why Camp

The magic of camp cannot be understated and we believe that every child deserves to experience it. At Camp, anything is possible and children are empowered to discover themselves, their connection with nature, and their role in their communities. It shapes what we imagine possible for ourselves, our communities, and the world.

There is untold and limitless possibility in protecting this precious place - from conservation, to access, to education. We believe that now is the time to re-imagine the future, and that through Camp, we can realize this future together.
