Dear Friends,

In what has been labeled as the single largest turnout to a Special Town Meeting in Brewster history, Brewster townsfolk nearly unanimously voted to acquire the Sea Camps parcels.

On October 5th, the voters of Brewster voted overwhelmingly in favor of funding the purchase of both CCSC properties.

The Town of Brewster formally became the new owners in November 2021.

BFF’s first priority has been to defend against the private development of these precious resources. We have endeavored together to secure the best possible outcome for the future of the Sea Camps. It is certain that this objective has now been secured.

Our second priority is to bring to fruition a vision of vastly increased equity of access and delivery of highly impactful programming for children and families. While the People of Brewster have many hopes and opinions for what might come to exist on these lands, the Town administration will undertake a formal process to develop a master plan.

PLEASE, make your voice heard to the Town directly.

In the months ahead, BFF will leverage its resources to continue to promote the vision of inclusive and impactful programming and will pursue collaborative opportunities to directly support program delivery. Additionally, BFF will be investigating what role it may perform to support the community of the former Cape Cod Sea Camps, including an alumni network nexus and perhaps a reunion sponsor. If you are interested in being a part of an alumni network or reunion effort, send an email to bff@brewsterflatsfoundation.org.

BFF has been honored to have received significant financial support through pledges and donations. All pledges were contingent upon securing a signed Purchase and Sale agreement. With that agreement no longer possible, all pledges will be canceled. Separately, cash gifts have been utilized across a number of projects to date. All remaining and future funds will be used to pursue programming and scholarship opportunities as outlined in the Articles of Organization, as well as ongoing BFF operations including engaging in the Town of Brewster’s master planning process and sustaining BFF’s digital database and infrastructure.

Having secured IRS 501(c)(3) status, BFF has delivered gift acknowledgment letters to all donors.

The events of the last year have forced us to take on unexpected challenges, yet the story is not complete. While it seems we have truly come to the End of a Wono Day, there remains the hope that BFF can support the joy and growth of children on the Cape in some capacity, and perhaps also serve the CCSC alumni community. As more clarity and details emerge, BFF will share the news with you all through the Rising Tide newsletter.

With sincere appreciation,

Jim, Johanna, Kate, Hollis, & Otis
